In the last year or so, N.A.S have matured as a band, although not mentally. What started as a bit of fun is now serious fun as they strive to be a better act. Since forming, N.A.S have played venues such as The House, The Dickens Inn (three times), Liberties In Town, The Station and Prior Pursglove College where the band played in a battle of the bands, finishing high.
The guys themselves enjoy the same music, with a love for basic punk rock, but are varied in their listening and where they draw influences from: ska, emotional rock and reggae all has an effect on their sound.
Writing songs initially was difficult and often frustrating: the lyrics were basic and uninspiring (in other words crap), the music didnt fit together and hours were spent in a garage near Roseberry Topping trying to create songs. After a few months the songs became better, stronger and more precise. They went on to record a couple of demo CD's at Studio 64 and Lorne St Studios. With No Added Sugar there are no limits as to the genre of their music, when a song is written it is not intended to be rock, punk, ska, emo, reggae or anything else. Because there are no limits as to the types of music the band enjoy and can play there is a wide variety of songs - from the light-hearted, stereotypical ska sound of Homesick and the punk pop crowd pleaser that is Burger Joint to the gritty, political hammering of Sole Survivors and the reflective, emo-styled New Start.
After the guys had been together for just over a year, Pez (Peter Robinson) joined as second guitarist after the band he played guitar for, The Phoolz, had split up and the other members had gone to join another local band. With him Pez brings a whole new element to NAS and that mint ditty on Introverse.
No Added Sugar have something that some other bands miss, and that is friendship. We are all for friendship and without friends we would not be where we are today, at the top of the rock and roll ladder (ho ho ho). There are too many people to thank so cheers to all our friends out there that have supported us all the way, a massive thank you from the sugar, we owe you a few drinks...
